Product Circularity Certification

Respect for the world around us has always been a priority for us and is one of the founding principles of our actions, also and above all at the production level. This is why we carefully observe and embrace all those guidelines that represent "doing things well" and "doing them responsibly" at a global level

The context around us is, in fact, one of ecological transition (towards renewable energy, circular economy, zero-emission mobility, protection of biodiversity) based on the ethics of responsibility. This must absolutely be taken into account in all decisions at company level.

Consequently, as part of its increasingly significant journey towards a green future, Scavolini began a product circularity study in 2019 and in early 2021, having completed this journey, the Cosmob certifying body issued the brand two certificates - one for kitchens and living rooms, and the other for bathrooms: in other words, for the various materials used to make our furniture - melamine/laminate, lacquer, wood, veneer, glass - an average product circularity of over 96% has been certified.

This certification is called the CQP Furniture Product Circularity Certification and it is a source of great pride for us as it certifies that Scavolini relies on valid criteria both in terms of production and in its choice of materials, with a view to being more environmentally friendly and economically efficient.

Criteria used to calculate product circularity

PRODUCTION INPUT

Assessment of:
1. Materials used for the product and packaging (parameters):

  • quantity;
  • recycled, permanent recycled and virgin material contents;
  • biodegradability; origin: Italian, EU, non-EU;
  • cost and durability;

2. Energy sources (parameters):

  • from electrical grid;
  • auto-produced from renewable source;
  • auto-produced from non-renewable source;

PRODUCTION OUTPUT

Assessment of:
Product and packaging waste (parameters):

  • types and quantities of waste destined for recycling, energy valuation, compost, landfill.

ENERGY OUTPUT

  • Electricity fed into the grid;
  • Thermal energy sold externally (e.g.: heat not auto-consumed).

PRODUCT AND PACKAGING END-OF-LIFE OUTPUT

Assessment of:
Materials used for the product and packaging (parameters):

  • Disassemblability of the various components of the finished product and disassemblability of any multi-material components;
  • product components intended for reuse;
  • method of managing recovery, recycling and energy valuation.

To assess and interpret the environmental impact of any asset (product or service), the entire life cycle of products is considered according to theLCA method (Life Cycle Assessment). Find out more.

Our company routinely performs product life cycle assessments to pursue - thanks to these assessments and to the ensuing know-how - its ECODESIGN procedure, an important guide to track all the development processes of our products correctly. As a result of these criteria and in relation to the circularity factors outlined above, some of our latest achievements include:

  • Use of materials for the large part made up of recycled raw materials.
  • Use of packaging mostly comprising recycled cardboard.
  • Exclusive use of green energy (both auto-produced by our photovoltaic system as well as energy purchased from the grid). Find out more.
  • Procedure for the recovery of more than 90% of waste produced during the manufacturing process.
  • Unused green energy introduced fed back into the grid (with dedicated certification).
  • Production of easy to disassemble finished products.
  • Production of finished products fit for reuse.
  • Production of highly recyclable or recoverable finished products.
  • Recyclable or recoverable packaging.

For Scavolini, obtaining this certification is therefore a way to renew its sustainability engagement that has been sealed over the years by a large number of acknowledgments at international level.
